High School Diaries is set in a high school, where there's lots of students that can be easily manipulated by people with bad intentions. One spark can cause one heck of a reaction, which is what happens to Green when one of his close friends betray him.

Where things get all blushy. Get a room, MCs!
The series' genre is romance, a really common genre in Japanese animes nowadays. If you have looked at the Characters page, this will be way too obvious.
The story is set where two of the main characters have romantic adventures with each other, and I'm sure you can tell which characters by looking at the background (if it loads).

Drama
Lots of conflicts and depressed Greens. Ouch.
Another genre of the series is drama, where the main protagonists have to deal with lots of emotional struggles (especially Green). They are turned against by almost all of the grade 9 students, just because of a mistake Green makes and ends up trash talking Summer after getting in an argument with her. This makes Green depressed and lose his will to exist in the world. Pretty depressing...

Based on a world similar to the real one.
The series shows lots of real-life scenarios, and is based on a fictional but realistic location, with a fictional but realistic storyline. This isn't fantasy - it's slice of life! It's a slice of the real life you live in - a parody of some of the things that can happen in real life.
